Mueang Chiang Mai is a district in mountainous northern Thailand. It includes the major city of Chiang Mai, which dates back to the 1200s. The Old City area still retains traces of walls and moats from its past as a cultural and religious center. The city and district are home to numerous temples, including 14th-century Wat Phra Singh and 15th-century Wat Chedi Luang, adorned with carved serpents.
