Appendage orchid

Prosthechea is a genus in the orchid family. The name is derived from the Greek word prostheke, referring to the appendage on the back of the column. Appendage orchid is a common name for this genus. The genus Prosthechea has only recently been reestablished by W. E. Higgins as a distinct genus.
