Typical grassquits
Tiaris is a genus of songbirds in the tanager family, containing the bulk of the grassquits. The genus was introduced by the English naturalist William John Swainson in 1827. The type species is the yellow-faced grassquit. The name is from the Ancient Greek word tiara for "head-dress".
