Abraham's Valley

After a sheltered youth as the most bewitching -- but unattainable -- girl in her town, Ema Cardeano (Leonor Silveira) weds Carlo Paiva (Luís Miguel Cintra), a man twice her age. Ema enters into the marriage as a concession to familial and cultural expectations, and as a result she's forever ending up in the arms of other men. This provides her with fleeting moments of solace, but, in the end, her search for genuine happiness leaves her in a precarious position.
