In the wake of the German invasion of Poland in 1939, Communist poet Aleksander Wat (Krzysztof Globisz) ; his devoted wife, Ola (Ewa Skibinska) ; and their young son, Andrzej Wat (Adas Siemion), attempt to flee Warsaw for the Soviet Union.
