H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds

Astronomer George Herbert (C. Thomas Howell) is assigned to investigate reports of strange meteors crashing into earth near New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D. C. As the meteors land, enormous multi-limbed metal creatures disembark and begin destroying everything and everyone in their path with heat-ray guns.
