Johnny Cornell (John Payne) is a saloon owner with dreams of hitting it big with his vaudeville troupe. Trudy Evans (Alice Faye), the quartet's star singer, loves Johnny, and together they make their act one of the biggest in show business. Their massive success emboldens Johnny to drop Trudy for wealthy socialite Bernice Croft, which prompts a heartbroken Trudy to move to England. Then, when she hears of Johnny's failed stage career, the newly minted London star tries to help him out.
