Stanley Snodgrass (Bob Hope), a talentless aspiring song-and-dance man, gets canned from his gig in the chorus of a New Jersey-based vaudeville show, a vehicle for starlet Irene Bailey (Arlene Dahl). But when a crazed fan (Robert Strauss), determined to kill anyone cast opposite Irene, attacks her latest co-star, Irene's boyfriend, Harry (Fred Clark), casts the bumbling Snodgrass in the leading man's place.
