While on a business trip to New York, Californian trader Oliver Hale (John Russell) meets and weds a young woman, Garnet (Joan Leslie), and the two leave for California. On their journey, they encounter a charismatic singer (Vera Ralston), who always finds trouble. Meanwhile, back home, Oliver's brother, Charles (Ray Middleton), has arranged a marriage between Oliver and a wealthy rancher's daughter.
