Kill the Umpire
Bill Johnson (William Bendix) is a former ballplayer who loves baseball and hates umpires. But when a sustained period of unemployment leaves him desperate for a job, his father-in-law (Ray Collins), a former umpire himself, compels Bill to go to umpire school. Bill hates it at first, but gradually comes to appreciate the umpire's role in the game. As he begins to call games professionally, he finds himself the target of the same criticism he himself used to hurl from the dugout.
