When wealthy socialite Mimi Caraway (Madeleine Carroll) attends a musical and finds herself the subject of parody, she heads backstage to take up her beef with the show's star, Mona Merrick (Alice Faye), and primary writer, Gary Blake (Dick Powell). After they blow her off, Mimi decides to charm Gary, and, in the process, persuade him to portray her more flatteringly. Eventually, real romance blooms between them -- but so does a bitter rivalry with Mona, who also loves Gary. …
