While Ash Ketchum travels in Hoenn, the friends and Pokémon he left behind continue to have adventures of their own. Misty, Brock, Pikachu, Professor Oak and his grandson, Gary, Jimmy, Marina and even Team Rocket are featured in the episodes, which aired in Japan as "Pokémon Side Stories."
