The mid-'60s is a tumultuous time in Singapore with British colonial rule coming to an end and independence on the horizon. With political and racial tensions high, American soldiers join British and Australian soldiers to keep crime in check. Also trying to achieve that goal is the Cheng Detective Agency, which investigates cases ranging from small-time crimes -- straying spouses and petty fraudsters among them -- to cases with international implications. Among the agency's employees is Sam Callaghan, who was dishonorably discharged from the Australian military and wants redemption for his past sins by helping people through his detective work. …
