Bharani and his mother live with his uncle, Saravanaperumal. Another family that exists on the other side is that of Vellathurai and Sakunthaladevi. Sakunthaladevi's daughter Bhanu falls in love with Bharani but he initially does not reciprocate any love towards her. Later, it is revealed that Bhanu is in actuality the daughter of Sakunthaladevi and Saravanaperumal. Bharani, therefore has all rights to marry her.
