Housewife Doris Borland (Loretta Young) makes her unlikely singing debut at a New York City opera house, as opera starlet Cecil Carver (Binnie Barnes) looks on. Unimpressed with Doris' performance, Cecil elicits some impromptu singing from Doris' contractor husband, Leonard (Warner Baxter).
