In a seaside village of Japan during the 1920s, married professor Aochi (Toshiya Fujita) meets up with old friend Nakasono (Yoshio Harada), who's now a drifter accused of murder. Aochi manages to fight off the suspicion surrounding his buddy, but complications arise when they meet bereaved geisha Koine (Naoko Otani). Nakasono is immediately smitten.
