Copiapó
Copiapó is a city in northern Chile's Atacama Desert. It prospered after silver was found at nearby Chañarcillo in the 19th century. Landmarks from that period include the neoclassical Copiapó Cathedral, with a distinctive 3-tiered tower. Nearby, the Casa de los Hermanos Matta houses the Atacama Regional Museum with a collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts and exhibits on the area's mining history.
