Tepic
Tepic is the capital of Nayarit state, in western Mexico. It centers on leafy Plaza Principal, which is overlooked by the neo-Gothic Tepic Cathedral. The nearby Juan Escutia House Museum tells the story of the young national hero who died fighting U. S. forces in 1847. In an 18th-century adobe building, the Nayarit Regional Museum exhibits pre-Hispanic artifacts. Trails wind up Cerro de San Juan, a hill to the west.
