Abū al-Ḥasan al-Ashʿarī, often reverently referred to as Imām al-Ashʿarī by Sunnī Muslims, was an Arab Muslim scholar of Shafi jurisprudence, scriptural exegete, reformer, and scholastic theologian, renowned for being the eponymous founder of the Ashʿarite school of Islamic theology.
