Alexander Home, 7th Earl of Home was the son of Charles Home, 6th Earl of Home and Anne Purvis. He married Lady Anne Kerr, daughter of Lt. -Gen. William Kerr, 2nd Marquess of Lothian and Lady Jane Campbell. He succeeded as the 12th Lord Home on 22 July 1706.
