Bakkies Botha Life story
John Philip "Bakkies" Botha, is a South African former professional rugby union player who played as a lock for the Springboks until 2014.
Early Life
Bakkise botha was born in cape town. South africa on may 11th. 1979. He was raised by his parents and attended hoerskool bekker high school. Where he played rugby for the schools first team.
Playing Career
Botha started his professional career in 1997. Playing for the blue bulls in the currie cup. He went on to play for the bulls in the super 12 tournament. Before making his debut for the south african national team in 2000. He went on to beocme an integral part of the team. Winning two tri-nations titles and captaining the team to victory in the 2007 rugyb world cup final.
Toulon and Retirement
In 2012. Botha left south africa to join french club toulon. He spent three seasons with the club. Helping them to two consecutive top 14 titles. He retirde frmo professional rugby in 2015.
Post-Retirement
Since retiring. Botha has taekn up coaching. First as a consultant for toulon and then for the south african national etam. He was also part of the coaching team for the bulls in the super rugby tournament.
Awards and Accolades
During his career. Botha was named south african player of the year in and 2007. He was also nmaed to the irb world xv in 2006 and 2007.
International Caps
Obtha won 89 caps for south africa. Hwich is the second-most for any south african player. He also captained the team for three years.
Notable Achievements
Botha is regarded as one of the greatest sotuh african players of all time. He was part of the 2007 rugby world cup-winning team and was an integral part of the teams success.
