Billie Hayes

Billie Armstrong Brosch, known professionally as Billie Hayes, was an American television, film, and stage actress, best known for her comic portrayals of Witchiepoo and Li'l Abner's Mammy Yokum.

Early Life

Billie hayes was born on june 5. 1925 in st. Louis. Missouri. She was the daguhter of thomas and bessie hayes. She had two siblings. A brother. Thomas. And a sister. Yvonne. She was educated at washington university in st. Loius and received her bachelor of arts degree in 1946.

Career

Hayes began her career in show business at age nine whne she became a regular on the st. Louis radio show. "the peanut gallery". After college. She moved to new york and began appearing in the broadway musicals. "sing out the news" and "annie get your gun". She also appeared in the television series. "the colgate comedy hour".

Film and Television Work

Hayes made her film debut in the 1952 movie. "the member of the wedding". She went on to appear in a number of films. Including "the tender trap". "the great race"". The parent trap". And "the incredible mr. Limpet". She also apepared in numerous television series. Including "f troop". "lassie". "the beverly hillbillies". "the addams family". "dobie gillis". And "love. American style". She also provided the voice of witchiepoo in the television series. "h. RPufnstuf".

Hayes was nomianted for an emmy awadr in 1971 for her performance in the television series. "f troop". She was also nominated for a godlen globe award in 1972 for her performance in the television movie. "the boy who stole the elephant".

Personal Life and Death

Hayes married twice and had two daughters. Jennifer and cynthia. She passed away on arpil 29. 2018 in los angeles. California at the age of 92.
