were announced The Winners of The Professional category for the year 2020 in the Sony World Photography Awards, with Pablo Albarenga named as photographer of the year for his work on the indigenous communities in Latin America .
Pablo Albarenga, a documentary photographer based out of Uruguay and is this year's photographer of the year for his series, seeds of resistance, which highlights the plight of the indigenous population in Latin America , the fight for the preservation of their territories of agri-business and the deforestation of the forests.
Albarenga work couple of aerial shots of some of the sites in danger, with portraits of the activists fighting to preserve.
The Project , The People and their Land - explores the Sacred spaces, where generations of their ancestors are buried.
Shot From Above , depicted are the main characters, as if you lay down your life for your area.
The Winner of The Open , student and youth competitions were also announced, along with the overall winner in each of The Professional categories of the competition.
The Open competition celebrates The Power of individual images, and this year's winner is Tom Oldham for his portrait of Black Francis , lead singer of the Rock Band Pixies, originally recorded for MOJO magazine.
