About Brisbane River


The Brisbane River is the longest river in South East Queensland, Australia, and flows through the city of Brisbane, before emptying into Moreton Bay. John Oxley, the first European to explore the river, named it after the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Thomas Brisbane in 1823.

Intense rain and record-breaking floods have hit eastern Australia, killing eight people.

A river in the northern New South Wales town of Lismore has broken its banks and risen to 14. 37m (47ft). Meanwhile in Queensland, the Brisbane River is flooding, causing extensive damage.
