Biography of Carlo Ponti
Carlo Ponti (1912-2007) was an Italian film producer and production designer.He was one of the most influential figures in Italian cinema and is widely credited for helping to define the modern Italian film industry.He was born in Milan.Italy and began his career as a production designer in the late 1930s.After World War II.he moved into producing films with his first production being "La Strada" in 1954.He went on to produce over 150 films and win numerous awards.including an Academy Award for Best Picture for "La vita e bella" in 1998.

Personal Life
Ponti married actress Sophia Loren in 1957.They remained married until his death in 2007.They were both passionate about Italian cinema.and Ponti was an avid supporter and mentor to many of the great Italian directors of the period.including Federico Fellini.Luchino Visconti.and Vittorio De Sica.
