Chico Mendes Life story
Francisco Alves Mendes Filho, better known as Chico Mendes, was a Brazilian rubber tapper, trade union leader and environmentalist. He fought to preserve the Amazon rainforest, and advocated for the human rights of Brazilian peasants and Indigenous peoples. He was assassinated by a rancher on 22 December 1988.

In December 1988 the Brazilian environmental activist Chico Mendes , was shot dead by angry farmers through his efforts to stop the exploitation of land in the Amazon jungle.
The 44-year-old Mendes, the leader of The Local rubber collectors-union, had to save, a powerful symbol for The Struggle of the rain forest.
His killing sparked outrage and renewed interest in environmental issues worldwide.
