The Syrian city with more cats than people
After months of intensive bombing of the Syrian and Russian troops, The Town of Kafr Nabl In Syria is the last rebel-held province is home to more cats than humans now. To offer people and cats now comfort each other in difficult times, writes the BBC's Mike Thomson.
in front Ducked under a table in The Corner of his debris covered a is located in the basement, and one-man shelters from the flood of bombs. But the 32-year-old Salah Jaar (pictured above) is not alone. A half-dozen other cats huddled next to him, he is like the kiss of death as you are.
"is It reassuring when The Cats in the area," he tells me. "'It's the bomb makes attacks, the destruction, The Suffering , they seem a lot less scary. "
Salah, home to The City of Kafr Nabl, was once the home of More Than 40,000 people, but less than 100 remain. It is difficult to estimate how many cats there are certainly hundreds, possibly thousands.
"So many people have left Kafr Nabl, that the population today is very low. The Cats need someone around you to care and give them food and water, so that you can refuge in the houses of those who in my memory has remained. Each house now has 15 cats, sometimes even more," says Salah.
Salah is still working as a news reporter for The Local radio station Fresh FM, although its original studios attack to rubble in one of the last air. Fortunately, The Station operations had to be moved to a safer city in the vicinity.
The radio station, the broadcast warning against attacks from the air, as well as news, comedy and phone-in programs, was popular with cats as well as humans. Dozens and dozens of from home. Its founder, killed by Islamist gunmen in November 2018, a special assigned to Supplement for you, buy the milk and cheese.
"Many of The Cats that were born in The Building . One of them was white with brown spots, and developed a special affinity with Raed. Would you say that with him and sleep at his side", Salah.
When he leaves you, What Remains of his shattered house, he is greeted by a near deafening cacophony of mews from every direction, some of the light and melodic, the other screaming and desperate. This happens to everyone, he says.
"Sometimes, when we go on the road on foot for about 20 to maybe 30 cats With Us all the way. Some of them even come home With Us . "
When the Darkness Falls , barks, and the numerous Stray Dogs howling add to the nightly noise. They are hungry and homeless. Their nightly scavenging for food and a place to sleep you are in a competition with Kafr Nabl-cats. Outmuscled, even though they may be, Salah emphasises that there is normally only one winner in this regular clashes.
"It's The Cats , of course! There are so many more of them. "
Most of them had fled, until recently, a lot of the beloved Pets of families out of The City soon after the pro-regime forces launched the effort to retake Idlib last April. Now, deprived of TLC and regular meals that you have had to new homes among the rubble.
And although the people like Salah can't, seems to be safe, to stay alive, no matter where they come from, their next meal, it is, there's always a place at the table for his four-legged friends.
"always, When I eat eat you, whether vegetables, noodles or just dried bread. In this situation, I have the feeling that we have to help the weak creatures and need each other," he says.
It is not surprising, given the constant bombardment, The Cats are often violated, along with all the others. Restore, in spite of the scarcity of drugs and pretty much everything else, Salah says that every effort is made for you.
"I have a friend, The Cats in his house. One of them was hit by a rocket that almost blew the paw of his front. But we have managed to say it Idlib city for treatment, and it is now walking around as good as before," he said.
With President Bashar al-Assad's forces, which is now not far from Kafr Nabl, The City will probably be overrun, before soon. Salah confesses to worry, not only for himself and his friends, but for The City of The Cat population.
Kafr Nabl today"We, the Good Times and The Bad share the joy and The Pain and the many, many fears. You said that our partners in life," he said.
And he insists that, if the worst happens, and he and others are Nabl forced to flee, Kafr, you take many of The Cats with them.
in the midst of all The Horrors of war, it seems, a close bond arose between humans and domestic animals, which are not easily broken.
