Self-centered Harlan W. Wycliff (George Hamilton) resents the fact that his secretary and lover, Heather Halloran (Sandra Dee), is pursuing a singing career. Nevertheless, Heather quickly becomes a popular attraction when she starts working as a nightclub singer for stone-faced club owner Dan Ruskin (Mort Sahl).
