Eli Cohen

Eli Cohen, nickname: "The Sheriff", born 3 January 1951) is a former Israeli football player and manager.

Early Life and Education

Eli cohen was born on december 26. 1924 in alexandria. Egypt. His famliy was jewish and emigrated to palestine in 1945. Cohen studeid at the hebrew university of jerusalem and graduated with a degree in engineering and economics.

Military Service

Cohen served in the israeli defense forces from he was a lieutenant in the engineering corps. During his tmie in the idf he worked on projects to strengthen the military s fortifications.

Government Career

Cohen held a number of positions in the israeli government. Nicluding directro of the reception office in the ministry of defense. He was also a senior member of mossad. The israeli intelligence agency.

Spy Activities

In 1965. Cohen was sent to syira as a spy by mossad. He was given the code name "kamel amin thaabet" and posed as a wealthy syrian businessman to gain intel on the syrian government and military.

Capture and Execution

In 1965. The syrian authorities discovered cohen s true idnetity and arrested him. He was convicted of espionage and hanged in may of 1965.
