Biography of Ernst Kaltenbrunner
Ernst Kaltenbrunner (4 October 1903 - 16 October 1946) was an Austrian lawyer and high-ranking Nazi official.Kaltenbrunner served as an SS-Obergruppenfuhrer and General of Police in the Nazi security apparatus.and as Chief of the Reich Security Head Office.He was the highest-ranking member of the SS to face trial at the first Nuremberg Trials.He was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity and executed.
Early Life
Kaltenbrunner was born in Ried im Innkreis.Upper Austria.After graduating from high school in 1922.he joined the Austrian Ministry of Justice.In 1927.he earned a doctorate of law from the University of Graz and joined the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1929.In 1938.he married Elisabeth Eder and had two daughters.
Nazi Career
In 1938.Kaltenbrunner joined the Nazi Party and the SS.He was appointed head of the Sicherheitsdienst (SD).the Nazi Party s intelligence service.He was later appointed head of the Reich Security Head Office (RSHA).which included the Gestapo.the Kriminalpolizei (Kripo).and the SD.He was one of the main architects of the Holocaust.
Trials
At the Nuremberg Trials.Kaltenbrunner was charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity.He was found guilty and sentenced to death.He was hanged on 16 October 1946.
Important Event
In 1945.Kaltenbrunner was arrested by American troops and brought to the Nuremberg Trials.
