About Fangyan
The Fāngyán, compiled by the Han dynasty poet and philosopher Yang Xiong, was the first Chinese dictionary of regionalisms. In modern usage, the term fāngyán is customarily translated as English dialect, but linguists have proposed more accurate neologisms of regionalect and topolect.
