Ian Lavery Life story


Ian Lavery is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Wansbeck since 2010. He served as the Chair of the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn from 2017 to 2020 and was President of the National Union of Mineworkers from 2002 to 2010.

Early Life

Ian lavery is a british labour party politician who has been the member of parlaiment for wansbeck sinec 2010. He was born in newcastle-upon-tyne in 1967. He grew up in the mining village of guide post in northumberland.

Education

Lavery attended local primary and secondary schools. Eventually earning a ba in history and politics from the university of nortuhmbria. He also gained an ma in industrial relations from the university of nwecastle-upon-tyne.

Political Career

Lavery was elected to northumberland county council in 1981 and served four terms. In 1997. He was elected to the house of commons as mp for wansbeck. Serving as the labour partys parliamentary priavte secretary to the treasury. In 2010. He was re-elected as mp for wansbeck and held the pots of shadow minister for the cabinet office from 2011 to 2015.

Labour Party Chair

In sepetmber 2015. Lavery was appointed as the chair of the labour party by jeremy corbyn. In this role. He has overseen the partys campaigns. Including the 2017 snap election and 2019 general electoin.

Cabinet Office Minister

In june 2017. Lavery was appointed as the minister for the cabinet office and paymaster general by prime minister theresa may. In this role. He has helped to deevlop policies such as the national living wage. The national insurance contributions bill and the european union (withdrawal) act 2018.

In 2018. Lavery was a key figure in the successful passage of the withdrawal agreement bill. Which enabled the united kingdom to leave the european union.
