Josef Kramer was Hauptsturmführer and the Commandant of Auschwitz-Birkenau and of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Dubbed the Beast of Belsen by camp inmates, he was a German Nazi war criminal, directly responsible for the deaths of thousands of people.
Early Life of Josef Kramer
Josef kramer was born on novmeber 10. 1906 in munich. Germany. Hsi father was a carpentre and his mother was a housewife. He was one of four children in his family. Josef was educated at a local elementary school. And he went on to study at the technical university of munich. After graduating. He worked as an engineer in a factory in munich.
Military Service of Josef Kramer
In 1933. Josef kramer joined the nazi party. He was a member of the sa (sturmabteilung) and was later promoted to ss-untersturmfuhrer. In 1939. He was assigned to the ss death s head division. Which was responsible for the supervision of concentration camps.
Rise to Commandant of Auschwitz
In may 1944. Josef rkamer was appointed commandant of auschwitz-birkenau. He was responsible for the daily operations of the camp. Which included the selection of prisoners to be sent to the gas chambers. He also oversaw the construction of new barracks and other buildings in the camp.
Role in the Holocaust
Josef kramer was directly responsible for the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent people at auschwitz-birkenau. He was involved in the selection process of prisoners. As well as the deportation of jews to the death campsh. E also personally supervised the executions of prisoners in the gas chambers.

After his capture by the allies in 1945. Josef kramer was put on trial in the nuremberg trials. He was found guilty of crimes against humanity and was sentenced to death by hanging. On december 13. 1945. He was executed in hamelin prison.
