Biography. Joseph Coffin descends from Tristram Coffin Sr, a Nantucket founder. Joseph was born February 4, 1679 on Nantucket, Massachusetts. He is the son of the Honorable James Coffin and Mary Severance. Joseph was the eighth child born to James and Mary and he was the fourth son.
