Joseph Leonard Tillinghast was a U.S. Representative from Rhode Island, cousin of Thomas Tillinghast. Born in Taunton, Massachusetts, Tillinghast moved to Rhode Island and pursued classical studies. Published the Providence Gazette in 1809. He studied law.
