Government progress in improving The Life chances of disadvantaged people in England was "disappointing," according to its own watchdog.

The Social mobility Commission says Ministers have delivered only on 23% of his proposals since 2013.

A spokesman said the Government was pleased that The Commission acknowledged progress in areas such as the improvement of life chances for poorer groups, and to keep disadvantaged students in training for more.

But The Commission warned that the coronavirus "bites already made a big impact on those from all disadvantaged backgrounds, and this will only get worse as the recession harder".

"It is now really important to a coherent and coordinated plan to help The Most vulnerable in the coming months and years," said The Commission , joint deputy director Steven Cooper .
