About Kakahaia National Wildlife Refuge
Kakahaiʻa National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1977 to permanently protect wetland habitat for endangered endemic waterbirds and wintering migratory wetland birds and to maintain the structural integrity of an ancient Hawaiian fishpond.
