Thaayamma, a poor orphan, leads an isolated life in a village. An influential person from the village tries to take advantage of her poverty and molest her. However, she manages to escape from his clutches. She meets Ponnurangam and they fall in love with each other. But Selvi, a rich woman, falls in love with Ponnurangam and proposes to him. But he rejects her proposal and decides to marry Thaayamma.
