Mary Max tried to kill herself 'years ago,' friends have said, before she succeeded and was found dead of apparent suicide in her Manhattan on Sunday. The 52-year-old, who was found by a friend, died of nitrogen asphyxiation. She is the wife of 81-year-old famed pop artist Peter Max.
