Mogens Einar Flindt Nielsen was educated at the University of Copenhagen and obtained his law degree in 1955.He then went on to work as a lawyer in the Danish Ministry of Justice.In 1964.he was appointed as the head of the Danish Institute of International Studies.During his tenure.he wrote extensively on international politics and published several books on the subject.

Mogens Einar Flindt Nielsen married Lise Norgaard in 1957.The couple had four children together.They remained married for 44 years until their divorce in 2001.
