A BBC investigation found universities receive More Than 700 allegations of sexual misconduct during The Past academic year.

students accused their universities is paralyzed by the fear of loss of reputation and not with the right support.

universities in the UK, said institutions have been advances in the treatment of complaints.

But the students said they had to appeal proceedings, with The Man said she "felt like going through" traumatic "and lengthy a trial" and another called it "a waste of time".

the freedom of information answers, find the file on 4 out of 81 UK universities in More Than 110 complaints of sexual assault and 80 allegations of rape were last year.

In A Number of cases, of universities and students, the alleged attacker, the police reported.

However, there are no binding guidelines on how universities should investigate or record such complaints.

predict The outcome, activists, and survivors, is a "patchy" system, not the students.

A student who reported a violent rape at your University and the police was forced, once again, their alleged attacker around campus, because of a gap in Uni-safe-guarding.

women from several universities to come already swayed forward, on the ground that the reporting process would be "traumatic".

A student said she was given to me by their University to spend The Night in the library, after She Said she could not back to your accommodation, out of fear of another attack

another described their experience as "like 'gaslit' [a term for mental abuse, if the victim is to constantly doubt yourself and reality] at the institutional level".

'I felt like I was On Trial "- Dani ' s story

Dani, 21, from Cambridge University, started with panic attacks after her Supervisor sent inappropriate and sexual messages.

At the edge of the end her of course, she's trying to complain - But it has been passed on and because of the conflicting advice.

If You have managed to reports, she was warned eight times, she was able to fee the face of a harassment, if You told someone else about the allegations.

"During the whole process I felt like I was The One who told before the court", the BBC.

Prior to the disciplinary hearings and asked You to provide evidence behind a Screen - Something commonplace in a court of Law , But the University refused.

"I had to sit on the same side of the table only a few seats away from him, while I was cross-examination by his lawyer," she says.

their complaint against him was upheld. But his punishment was to write a four-sentence letter of apology and a no-contact agreement saw that Dani - not your Supervisor - denied, certain buildings of the University.

The Man was allowed to stay at the University.

The University of Cambridge, told the BBC, which constitutes the "highest importance" to the welfare of his students and said to have improvements, and will also be made to continue.

'It will ruin You ' - Alice ' s story

Alice , not her real name, reported a student for

The Man would be committing a "potential rape", lawyers say, because if You agree that sex with a condom and remove say Without , then You are approval.

After he made a complaint via Social Media about the same student, Alice felt that she had to come forward, in spite of hearing "so many horror-stories" about their University's sexual misconduct reporting process.

Through Social Media , she spoke to eight women who had similar experiences with the same man.

A trail of E-Mails seen by the BBC, which shows how they have kept the University updated of what You found. But if Alice was waiting for a date for their preliminary hearing with the University, was she suddenly said that her case was dropped.

A rule change is available by referring to the University disciplinary Commission, your case is not more, his definition of "harassment".

Alice , the horrified is now in the castle, "" that The Man remains on the campus in the room - Unless , of course, a current student decides to mount a Fresh Complaint under the new rules.

University of Cambridge spokesman said: "We will do everything we can to ensure that students feel supported and informed in relation to their decisions". But the University said it is "always do more for us".

"It's a total waste of time," Alice says. "And it ruined them. "

What happens if a student complains?

Each facility is different, But normally the University will appoint an investigator who records the testimony.

Then a Committee of faculty and sometimes student representatives, interviews with the defendant and the Prosecutor prior to the decision, whether the appeal be maintained to.

The Process should be fast, But the BBC heard of a woman whose complaint of sexual assault took Nine Months to solve - the whole of your second year.

Some universities don't say, the Prosecutor will consider the outcome of their own complaint - it as a matter between the institution and The Accused .

BBC research found penalties for sexual misconduct ranged from expulsion to bans of University bars. Others were told, the letters to write the apology to the victims.

At the University of Sussex, a punishment for sexual misconduct a suspended £was paid to behavior 250 Fine , only if The Student got in trouble again before the end of the year.

Anna bull, from the years 1752 group, which researches sexual misconduct in Higher Education , the call for a better settlement of the complaint.

"the universities have encouraged students to come forward and take complaints, But actually, institutions are not necessarily safe," she says.

part of the problem, she says, is not that the universities of the police Themselves , and while some manage well, a lot.

Nicola Dandridge , chief executive Office for students, England independent regulatory authority for Higher Education , told the BBC there would be an intervention in the "serious examples of the failure of universities to take these issues seriously."

"But we will always aim to ensure that our intervention is appropriate and in The Best interest of the students. It's not about punishment universities," She Said .
