Niemba Ambush

The Niemba ambush took place on 8 November 1960, when an Irish Army platoon in Congo-Léopoldville was ambushed and all of its men killed or forced to flee by Luba militia, the first time the Irish Army was embroiled in battle since the founding of the Irish state in 1922.
