Orakja Snorrason Life story
In the Sturlunga saga, Órækja Snorrason, illegitimate son of Snorri Sturluson, then Iceland's most powerful chieftain, was captured in 1236 and taken to Surtshellir, where he was blinded, castrated, bound “on the top of the fortress,” and left for dead (though he survived the ordeal).
