Rattanakosin Island, also called Rattanakosin or Old Town, is home to the ornate Grand Palace and a sprawling temple complex called Wat Pho, known for its huge reclining Buddha. In parks including Sanam Luang, locals play sepak takraw, a kick volleyball game. Boutique hotels offer riverside dining, while Phraeng Phuton Square is lined with row houses where old-school eateries sell coconut ice cream and BBQ pork.
