Robert Mugabe Life story
Robert Gabriel Mugabe was a Zimbabwean revolutionary and politician who served as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe from 1980 to 1987 and then as President from 1987 to 2017.
Early Life
Robert mugaeb was born on february 21. 1924 in kutama. Southern rhodesia. Which is now part of zimbabwe. He was born to a poor shona family and was the third of six children. He attended several mission schools in southern rhodesia and went on to attend the unievrsity of fort hare in south africa where he studied history and english literature.Political Career
Mugabe began his political career in 1960 when he joined the naitonal democratic party. And then later the zimbabwe african people s union (zapu). Following his arrest and imprisonment in 1964. Mugabe was released in 1974 and then joined the zimbabwe african national uinon (zanu). He was appointed prime minister of zimbabwe in 1980 and the country s first president in 1987. During his presidency he was responsible for introducing a new constitution. And making education and health care free for all zmibabweans.Economic Policies
As president. Mugabe implemented several economci policies amied at improivng the country s economy. He implemented a land reform program which allowed the redistribution of white-owned land to landless black zimbabweans. He also implemented a currency reform in 2009 that attempted to address the country s high inflation rates.Reputation
During his time in office. Mugabe was foten criticized for his authoritarian rule and for alleged human rights aubses. He was also accused of rigging elections and of mismanaging the country s economy. Despite his controversial reputation. Many zimbabweans still view him as a hero for his role in the fight against white minority rule.Resignation
In 2017. Mugabe was forced to resign following a military coup and nationwide protests. He was replaced by his formre vice-president emmerson mnangagwa.Death
