Wales Covid pass: Extension to cinemas and theatres agreed by Senedd

Feb 16,2020 7:00 am

People going to cinemas and theatres in Wales will be required to show a Covid pass after the extension plans were agreed by the Senedd .

Currently people have to show they are fully vaccinated, have tested negative for Covid, or have recently had The Virus to enter nightclubs and large events in Wales.

From 15 November it will be extended to cinemas, theatres and concert halls.

Labour ministers won a vote on the plans with Plaid Cymru support.

The new laws passed with 39 Senedd members voting for and 15 against.

Labour's majority was in contrast to October when it won by a single vote, blamed on a single Conservative failing to take part.

At The Time the Welsh Government - which holds exactly half of the seats in the Senedd - had faced potential defeat with the opposition including Plaid Cymru voting against the plans.

Following the vote Big Brother Watch, a civil liberties campaign, said it had initiated legal action calling the scheme " authoritarian, invasive and unevidenced".

But Labour politicians told a debate in the Welsh Parliament that the Covid pass scheme is popular, and Health Minister Eluned Morgan said the extension was designed to keep cinemas and theatres open over The Winter months.
