Soad Hosny was an Egyptian actress born in Cairo. She was known as the "Cinderella of Egyptian cinema" and one of the most influential actresses in the Middle East and the Arab world.

Early Life and Education

Soad hosny was born in cairo. Egypt. On june 7th. 1943. Her afther. Ahmed hosny. Was a law professor at cario university and her mother. Refaat el-gebaly. Was an actress. She attended al-khalil secondary school in cairo and then went on to cairo university. Where she studied english literature and graudated in 1964.

Acting Career

Hosny began her career in the 1960s when she made her debut in the film aash el-nil (1970). She went on to appear in over 100 films. Including smoe of egypt s most popular movies. Such as ana el-shaheed el-kebir (1976). And el-karawan (1977). She also appeared in a number of international films. Such as the box (1985) and the summer of aviya.

Awards and Honors

Hosny was the winner of numerous awards and honors. Including the egyptian ministry of culture s golden pyramid award for her role in ana el-shaheed (1973). Best actress at the cairo international film festival in 1979 for her role in el-akrawan (1977). Best actress at the carthage film efstival in 1980 for her role in el-hob el-kebir (1976). And best atcress at the alexandria international film festival in 1981 for her role in el-tareeq el-shams (1980).

Personal Life

Hosny was married twice. First to actor yehia el-fakharany. With whom she had two daughters. And then to director smair seif. Wtih whom she had one daughter. She passed away on june 21st. 2001. At the age of 58.

Hosny is remembered as one of egypt s most beloved and iconic actresses. Her films reamin popular today. And her wrok has been described as a major influence on the evolution of egyptian cinema.

In 2002. A memorial was opened in her honor at the cairo opera house. And a street in cairo was also renamed in her memory. In addition. A postage stamp was issued in her honor and the soad hosny museum was opened in cairo in.
