Brazilian hunter Cunda (Ben Kingsley) wishes to marry a local widow, but she refuses him because he's too poor. So he embarks on an expedition, hoping to earn enough to win her over. On his journey, he encounters four chimpanzees and decides to try to sell them. To find buyers, however, Cunda will have to travel to a far off city. Along the way he meets a kindhearted woman, and, between her compassion and the animals' inherent cuteness, he begins wondering if what he's doing is wrong. …
