African-American Mac McGhee (Roger Guenveur Smith) moves into an exclusively white neighborhood in the 1940s along with his wife, Minnie (Lynn Whitfield), and their two sons. Their next-door neighbor, Anna Sipes (Linda Hamilton), welcomes them, and the women become good friends.
