Desperate to escape poverty, villager Dionosio Pinzón (Ernesto Gómez Cruz) restores an injured rooster to health. He then starts pitting it in cockfights, where the bird proves to be a fierce competitor. As the money begins rolling in, Dionosio abandons his humble roots and cultivates the trappings of wealth. Along the way he gets on the bad side of gambler Lorenzo Benavides (Alejandro Parodi) after stealing his girlfriend, La Caponera (Blanca Guerra).
